Laughing at Trees
Breathless, caught the brushing arm
Stoops to dance beneath the bough
Running, points to cloudy faces
Through the chestnut's trellised brow.
Fearless, down the riverbank
Splashes, licks the cooling spray
Lying shaded, pale and naked
Wrapped in summer's hideaway
Lifeless, winter stands observing
Waits to claim an early prize
Holding now, while passion passes
In their arms and through their eyes,
Time is frozen, care abandoned
Now to love and laugh at trees
